Kinky Farnham Funk the Black Horse crowd

Last Sunday, at the Black horse in Shipston-on-Stour we had the funk soul band, from Chipping Campden, Kinky Farnham, groove the appreciative audience, many of whom were in the bands themselves. The band have been going for 3 years and have picked up a dedicated following, particularly after their headline set at the Stratford River Festival to the heaving dancing crowds.

The band line-up is Tom Threadgill – lead vocals, conga, bongo, Mark Hanks -guitar and vocals, Toke Bennett – bass guitar, Teebs Bryan – keyboard and vocals, Leon Ions – drums, Meg Graham – saxophone and harmonica , Ben Bryan – guitar and vocals and Chris Slatter – trumpet.

The band played what seemed an inexhaustible set of soul & funk numbers for over 2 hours to a crowd that got bigger, and after having their food from Gabe’s BBQ and drinks from the bar got up and danced, including some of the very small children!.

The set list included “Dreadlock Holiday” (in celebration of England beating Australia at cricket for the Ashes) , “Soul Man”, “Knock on Wood”, “Cosmic Girl and “Le Freak” and then for an encore the crowd kept asking for more and so they also included “Jungle Boogie” “Get up Offa That Thing”, “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”, “I Feel Good” and “Uptown Funk”.

Kinky Farnham’s next gig is at the Moreton-in-Marsh Beer Festival on 11th September at Moreton Cricket Club. Next up for the Black Horse is the Cider Fest on Sunday 30th August at 3pm.
