After all the pre-season testing we finally have the first grid for the opening round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Dave Newsham

As he did at the BTCC Media day ES Racing’s Dave Newsham posted an early quick time yesterday afternoon which was never beaten. For 2012 he is racing a Vauxhall Vectra formally raced by James Nash for Tripple 8 Racing. He is joined on the front row by Matt Neal (Honda Yuasa Racing) in his new NGTC spec Honda Civic.

Row two has the EBay Motors backed WSR run BMW 320i of Rob Collard with in 4th place (and on an identical time) Andrew Jordan (Pirtec Racing) also in a new NGTC spec Honda Civic. Collard for 2012 has a Neil Brown tuned BMW turbo unit.

Row three has Collard’s team mate Tom Onslow-Cole in a BMW and in 6th is the new NGTC spec MG6 driven by former champion Jason Plato.

Newsham was over the moon with pole position and Neal happy to have qualified on the front row. Collard was more than happy with 3rd place though he said “Very happy being quickest in FP1 and 3rd in qualifying which was 2nd until a last lap from Neal moved me down a slot.
