Tom Sharp wins again
Camberley’s Tom Sharp was in action again last weekend at the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup championship, which supports the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Saturday morning’s qualifying session saw an eventful start to preceding’s for Camberley’s Tom Sharp after he clipped an apex tyre bail causing substantial damage resulting in his worst grid position of the season down in seventh.
In the opening race of the weekend, on Saturday afternoon Sharp carved his way through the field, with brave overtaking moves around the outside of the quick Tower corner, to finish up on the final podium spot in 3rd place.
In the second race the top three comfortably broke free from the rest of the pack and began to fight for the lead. At the mid way point of the race Ingram made his move to take the lead which left Breeze and Sharp to fight for second. With three laps remaining contact between the pair force Breeze into a spin where he rejoined to finish third. After the race however the places were then reversed.
The final reverse grid race promoted Sharp into second place on the grid and after a quick getaway he moved into the lead by turn 1. After spending the entire race defending from a quick Breeze and Ingram Sharp managed to bring the IDL UK prepared car home for his 9th win of the season so far.
Sharp leads the battle in Race 3
As Sharp commented at the end of the weekend “After qualifying things weren’t looking good, apart from the obvious damage and the low starting position I had also managed to flat spot a pair of tyres. Our nominated spare tyre had a chunk missing from it so by race three we were definitely on the back foot but still managed to come away with a win.”
After the Croft results Sharp leads the championship with 445 points with Ingram on 360 and Breeze on 349
The championship now takes a 7 week break and then returns with races at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk on August 11th & 12th
